Fat loss is a difficult thing to do with just cardio and strength training alone. To really maximize your results you need to change your diet as well. Doing things such as portion control, preparing nutritious meals, and cutting out empty calories are all important. However there are a few ingredients you can incorporate into your diet that will give your efforts an additional boost, speeding up the process and making sure you are at your highest state of readiness when you step onto the stage at your next bodybuilding show or onto the tourist filled beaches.
The ingredients listed below have a variety of effects that will speed up the fat loss process. Some inhibit the way fat is stored, others act upon the fat cells directly but it doesn't matter how they work because research has proven that they work. The end result is a leaner body that will be turning heads no matter where you show up.
1. Raspberry Ketones
What is it?
A Raspberry extract also found in other berries that has been found in studies to help with weight loss and obesity. In a study performed on mice given a high-fat diet it was observed that a decrease occurred in visceral and liver fat. These effects correlate to an increase in norepinephrine a stress hormone that decreases appetite and triggers the release of glucose [9]. A long term effect that will lead to weight loss when taken over an extended period of time.
Where to get it?
Berries such as Red Raspberries, Cranberries and Cranberries. Natural food sources have trace amounts of Raspberry Ketones but high quality fat loss supplements will have higher concentrations with none of the sugars that may be found in fruits.
2. Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)
What is it?
A naturally occurring omega-6 fatty acid found in many foods. Studies show an increase in fat burning, reduction in fat storage, and an increase in the subjects satiation throughout the day. A three pronged attack on fat from three areas, the reduction in hunger can help with motivation, ensuring that you won’t succumb to temptation. This probably the best fat burner ingredients on this list, make sure you incorporate it into your weight loss regiment.
Where to get it?
Vegetable oils, meats and milk of cows, goats and sheep, particularly those given a grass-fed diet, and of course supplements.
3. Taraxam Officinale (Dandelion Root)
What is it?
A natural diuretic that reduces the amount of water stored in the body [5]. Although this does not have an effect on fat loss it does lead to the desired ‘cut’ look most people wish to achieve. On top of that the immediate results will prove to be highly motivating, an effect that has been proven documented in neuroscience studies [6]. This is a fast acting weight loss ingredient, however it should be used with other ingredients as it only really affects water loss and not fat loss.
Where to get it?
Dandelion root, you can find it as a tea or extracted in higher concentrations in many supplements [3]. This is probably one of the more well known ingredients on this list because of the numerous other beneficial health effects it can have.
4. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA)
What is it?
Found in all human cells, Alpha-Lipoic Acid is a naturally occurring compound that plays a role in energy production on the cellular level. The effect occurs naturally but when supplemented it can have moderate effect that can be that extra push you need when dieting and exercising properly.
Where to get it?
Red meats, Offal meats (liver, heart, kidney, etc), broccoli, spinach, tomatoes, green peas [11]. As mentioned before, natural sources will produce the desired effect, however natural sources also come with excess nutrition that may hamper your progress. Supplements provide Alpha Lipoic Acid in a pure concentrated form.
5. 3,5-Diiodo L Thyronine (T2)
What is it?
A derivative of natural thyroid hormones that regulate your body's temperature, metabolism, and heart rate. Studies show an increase in metabolism and a reduction in fat storage. The term thermogenic could be applied to 3,5-Diiodo L Thyronine, a process by which heat is produced through metabolic stimulation, the end result being an increase in energy expenditure.
Where to get it?
Being a hormone the only real sources are those that are naturally created in your body, however supplement powders and weight loss pills will have them at higher concentrations that you can take at any time
6. L-Carnitine Tartrate
What is it?
A form of Carnitine a substance that a healthy body naturally produces. Carnitine is found in cells where it aids in oxidation [2], the process of turning fat into energy your body can use.
Where to get it?
Because Carnitine is found in cells the only way to get more of it is through powder supplements and fat burning pills.
